Pirelli Tire Tests at Spain 2023

More than 600 laps were completed to develop tires for the 2024 F1 season at the Barcelona test the week after the 2023 Spanish Grand Prix.

Pirelli’s tire development test concluded at the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit in Spain, with Mercedes AMG-Petronas F1 and Scuderia Ferrari. Four drivers were involved: Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) and George Russell (Mercedes) on Tuesday, June 6, while Carlos Sainz took over the Ferrari on Wednesday, June 7, and Mick Schumacher made his debut for Mercedes.

A total of 617 laps were covered: 167 for Leclerc, 152 for Schumacher, 151 for Russell, and 147 for Sainz. The test focussed on the development of 2024 compounds and ran entirely without using blankets to pre-heat the tires. The best times of each day were 1m16.638s for Sainz, 1m18.197s for Leclerc, 1m18.400s for Russell, and 1m18.974s for

”These were two very important days of testing as we gathered plenty of useful information to come up with the best possible choices for next year. In terms of construction, there are still just a few details to fine-tune, while during this test we began to identify a solid development base for the compounds; especially for the middle of what will be the 2024 range. All the running took place without using tire blankets. We verified a few interesting things on track; now we move onto a complete analysis of all the data so that we head into the next test, at Silverstone after the British Grand Prix, as well-prepared as we can be. After that, we will draw some conclusions from all the work done over the last few months and present the FIA, F1, and the teams with the complete picture so that the best decisions can be taken using all the information available.”
