Michael Schumacher by Fabio Desenhando
Following his acclaimed Ayrton Senna artwork, Brazilian artist Fabio Gonçalves de Arruda continues his journey in graphite realism with a new tribute to Michael Schumacher. Meticulously crafted over months of study and dedication, the piece captures not only Schumacher’s legendary presence in Formula 1, but also Fabio’s evolution as an artist.
“Since last year, when I created the Ayrton Senna artwork, I had wanted to do something similar with another Formula 1 idol. But at the time, I didn’t feel fully ready; I wanted the next piece to be on the same level, or even higher. Over the past year, I spent my time studying, practicing, and searching for the right way to bring this idea to life.”
“This year, I felt it was the right moment and decided to create an artwork of Michael Schumacher. I grew up watching Formula 1 with my father, who has always been a huge fan, and that indirectly influenced me. Choosing the right image of Schumacher was a real challenge because I wanted to be able to represent him just through his eyes. Even with the helmet and the car’s details, his expression had to convey strength and determination, so that anyone who knows him could recognize him only by his gaze. I managed to achieve that, and it’s something I’m very proud of.”
“I used pencils and graphite on 190-gram paper, materials that allow me to capture all the necessary details for realism. I dedicated 223 hours over the course of three months, adjusting every line to reach excellence and convey the pilot’s essence. Every detail, from the helmet to the uniform, was designed to reflect Schumacher’s strength, courage, and determination.”
“The result allowed me to connect with many Formula 1 and Schumacher fans, including those who have followed me since the Ayrton Senna artwork.
