Hamilton wins dramatic race at Silverstone

Lewis Hamilton wins his third British GP after a great decision to switch to intermediate tyres with few laps remaining in an action-packed race. Nico Rosberg takes second and Sebastian Vettel found an unlikely third.

"For the first time in my life I made the perfect choice on tyres" said a really happy Hamilton on the podium. Toto Wolff added "he got the call right. We needed to have the input from the drivers and he was right. It was absolutely the right call but it wasn’t obvious."

Williams’s drivers Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas finished 4th and 5th respectively after coming a long way and even led ahead of both Mercedes after a fantastic race start; however, following the pit stops and the rain shuffling they lost out on the podium.

With Williams running one-two in the opening laps, retirements quickly happened with Jenson Button, Romain Grosjean and Pastor Maldonado  on the first lap, a scenario which triggered a Safety car.

Sauber driver Felipe Nasr had to retire due to a problem before the race; Max Verstappen, Daniel Ricciardo and Carlos Sainz were the other drivers who did not finish.

It wasn’t Scuderia Ferrari’s best race, with Sebastian Vettel lacking pace and Kimi Raikkonen getting stuck behind Nico Hulkenberg. And with the rain in the second part of the race, Raikkonen took a gamble to place inters - but it was too soon, he eventually finished 8th. Seb, though, benefitted from the late rain and a good pitstop to climb his way up to the podium.
